John Deere 5310 Long-Term Review: 500 Hours Later

It's easy for a tractor to impress on a short test drive; the real test is how it performs after several hundred hours of actual field use. We followed a cotton farmer in Nagpur who put just over 500 hours on his John Deere 5310 across a full kharif season of ploughing, rotavator work and regular haulage to the local mandi.

Fuel consumption tracked closely with John Deere's claimed figures, and the farmer reported no unscheduled downtime beyond routine oil and filter changes. Hydraulic response remained consistent even under heavier disc harrow loads late in the season, something he specifically contrasted with his previous tractor's tendency to lag as hours accumulated.

The one recurring complaint was service cost: routine maintenance at the authorised John Deere workshop ran noticeably higher than what he'd have paid for a comparable domestic-brand tractor, a trade-off he says he accepted knowingly for the build quality and resale value.

Five hundred hours in, our assessment is that the 5310 delivers on its premium positioning, provided buyers go in with realistic expectations about service costs and budget accordingly.
